Intent for History

At Holy Family Catholic Primary School, we want children to be interested and excited to learn about the past.

We do this by encouraging children to ask and answer their own questions linked to their history topic and by using a range of resources that will bring history to life, for example photographs, diaries, newspaper articles, music and handling real objects from the past.

The study of history ignites children’s curiosity about the past in Britain and the wider world. Through finding out about how and why the world, our country, culture and local community have developed over time, children understand how the past influences the present. What they learn through history can influence their decisions about personal choices, attitudes and values. At Holy Family Catholic Primary, our intent, when teaching history, is to stimulate the children’s curiosity in order for them to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding.
